Eight Things To Do During Quarantine

I’d like to start off by saying that while many people are encouraging each other to be productive during this quarantine, it is okay to just be lazy and do nothing. We are facing unprecedented times, and if laying in bed all day and binging Netflix is how you get through it, that is perfectly okay. Please do your part by social distancing and self-quarantining! While you may not get severely sick, think of those who would. In the words of my mom’s Whatsapp group chat, there is a plant that cures coronavirus: plant your behind in your house and don’t leave!

Here are 8 fun things to do while in quarantine:

  • Learn to knit! You can easily get supplies off of Amazon and/or at your local Walmart (only if you’re doing a grocery run though). I use Boye US 11 (8 mm) needles and Bernat Blanket yarn (it’s super soft!).

  • Get into embroidery. I started embroidering before this quarantine began, but it’s a great pastime and you can get an entire kit off Amazon for $20. Make sure you also get an erasable marker so you can draw your own design.

  • Read a book. I’m a big reader, so here’s a list of my favorite books I’ve read recently: The Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings, Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I use the website thriftbooks.com to buy used books for dirt cheap.

  • Put together a puzzle. I love getting a 1,000 piece puzzle, spreading it out on my kitchen table (much to the chagrin of my mother) and going at it. After you finish the puzzle, you can use puzzle glue to glue it together and display it as art!

  • Binge a TV show. Some recommendations for TV shows on Netflix: Glow Up, Next in Fashion, Lady: La Vendedora de Rosas, Cable Girls, and High Seas.

  • Binge Disney movies. I have literally forgotten all Disney movies and have been slowly rewatching them during this quarantine.

  • Bake! I have recently gotten into baking, and it’s so fun! It’s easy to find recipes for beginners online, and the ingredients aren’t very expensive. Nothing’s better than eating homemade chocolate chip cookies with milk.

  • Play board games. Clue is the best board game ever and UNO is second best. If you don’t have board games, download a game onto your phone! My current favorite is Sudoku.

Stay safe and make sure to social distance!
