Adventures in Adulting

I recently embarked on a forgiveness spree. I decided that I could no longer live with anger in my heart, because I knew that I could never truly be happy if I held on to grudges. Upon this realization, I decided to own up to my mistakes and discuss my issues with others. Additionally, I realized that in order for me to be able to receive forgiveness from others, I needed to be able to forgive those that hurt me the most.

I have come up with a few tips to help others embark on their own forgiveness spree.

1. Be Ready

· You have to decide that you want to forgive them in your heart first. You cannot reach a solution if you’re not ready. It may take you a few weeks, months, or even years to be ready. I’ve been there! Don’t rush it. Forgive when you are ready.

2. Stay Calm

· In order to reach a solution, you need to be able to listen. Don’t focus on what they said that you disagree on. You do not want to start arguing on the issue all over again.

3. Move On

· Once all is forgiven, you have to let the past go, which means you can’t bring it up the next time you get angry. There is a chance that someone may not forgive you or give you the apology you deserve. If this unfortunate situation occurs, you need to forgive them anyway. It’s for your own well being!
